KIX to SFO to PDX to SEA to NRT

Visited the homeland again for 10 days last month to see friends and family: Osaka to San Francisco, then to Washington by way of Portland, then Seattle to Tokyo. Not enough time to see everyone, but I did catch:

Bay Area: Kid-sitting my nephews while their parents attend a wedding.
Above, left:
Kite flying on what I thought was a windless day.
Above, right:
My sister Marnie showing off her new mehndi.

Washington State: More time with family:

is that rahim or karim flying the kite? and what exactly is that on marnie’s hand? does it come off? is it something like a tattoo? what is it for?

Sorry, sarariman. I almost forgot to respond to your comment! That’s Rahim flying the kite he found in the garage. I didn’t believe it would fly on that day. Shows how much I know.
The pattern on Marnie’s hand is mehndi, a form of temporary body art in which henna vegetable dye is applied to the skin. She had just come back from a South Asian friend’s wedding. As part of the celebration, many of the women got mehndi-ed.
